SOUTH DENNIS – The driver of a Ring Brothers Wholesale 2012 Mitsubishi box truck was ejected from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries after it struck some trees and rolled on its side just before noon on Thursday. (The photo above shows the truck after it had been righted.)

The truck was northbound on Route 134 when it veered to the right and struck a clump of cedar trees in front of 812 Route 134, the MelPet Farm Residences.

Alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash, the driver was found lying outside the truck’s crushed cab. Dennis firefighters had to use a chainsaw to clear away tree branches to reach him.

Firefighters brought the patient to a ball field at the Nathaniel Wixon Middle School to meet a MedFlight helicopter for transport to Beth Israel Deaconess Medial Center in Boston.

Dennis Police officers also determined that the box truck had struck a second vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet van, which had been ahead of it in traffic. The van (below) suffered only minor damage and the driver and passenger were not injured.

The fire department secured a diesel spill from a fuel tank while police units secured and shut down Route 134. Assistance was called from the Dennis DPW to help remove trees and debris from the crash site.

A crew from Silver Cloud Towing pulled the box truck back onto its wheels and removed it from the scene.

Dennis Police called a Barnstable County Criminal Investigation Officer (CIO) to assist in the investigation of the crash.

Route 134 was closed in the area for around two hours. The crash site was just down the road from the spot of a fatal dump truck crash on February 29th.
