Video & update: Firefighters extricate victims after rollover crash closes Route 28 in Cotuit

COTUIT – A two vehicle crash left one car on its side in Cotuit. Firefighters had to extricate some of the victims after the collision on Falmouth Road (Route 28) at Santuit-Newtown Road sometime after 8:30 PM Friday. Several ambulances were called to the scene. Route 28 was completely closed in the area.

From Barnstable Police: On Friday March 20th 2026, at approximately 8:36 PM several patrol units were dispatched to the intersection of Santuit-Newtown Rd and Falmouth Rd Rte 28 in the village of Cotuit for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles. When officers arrived, they observed one of the involved vehicles to be on its side. Several local fire departments assisted the Cotuit Fire Department. In total five people sought medical treatment; four people were transported to Cape Cod Hospital by ambulance and one person later transported themselves. One of those transported was reported to have multi-system trauma. The crash is being investigation by the Barnstable Police Traffic Unit. A preliminary investigation shows the vehicle arriving officers observed on its side, had rolled onto three of its sides before finally coming to rest on its driver side.
