UPDATED: Five charged in armed home invasion in Hyannis late Monday night


HYANNIS
– Barnstable Police report that On Monday at 11:20 PM, Barnstable Police were dispatched to 18 General Patton Dr., Hyannis for a report of an Armed Home Invasion. Initial reports indicated that 3-4 masked subjects, armed with firearms, entered the home and assaulted occupants therein. The suspects then fled in a black SUV which was intercepted by responding officers on General Patton Drive. The occupants of the SUV were identified as Derek Burden of Plymouth, Vedel Haynes of Plymouth, Dehkwon Marshall-Rabb of Hyannis, and Dayshaun Tatum of Plymouth.

According to victim statements, the assailants entered the home and announced “Barnstable Police”. They brandished firearms and assaulted several of the occupants. All four subjects were placed under arrest and charged with the following offenses.

Further investigation revealed that a fifth suspect, identified as Jennifer Schaaf of Hyannis, was inside the residence at the time of the incident and initially presented herself as a victim. It was later revealed that she participated in the planning of the event. Schaaf was placed under arrest and charged with Home Invasion, Conspiracy, and Armed Robbery while Masked.

This incident remains under investigation.

Update: On Tuesday, Barnstable Police Investigators conducted a search of the aforementioned black SUV which was used during the commission of the home invasion. The vehicle was seized on the night of the incident and a search warrant was sought for the purposes of collecting evidence. During the search, a loaded .38 caliber handgun, extra ammunition, a replica 9mm handgun, masks, and gloves believed used by the suspects, were located in the vehicle. Also found, was a set of handcuffs, along with items stolen from the victims during the incident.

All suspects are being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on 3/30/18.

One suspect, Dayshaun Tatum, has a previous conviction for Home Invasion, Armed Assault with Intent to Murder, and Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. He was on probation at the time of his arrest.
