HYANNIS – Construction on the Town of Barnstable’s Great Streets Downtown Hyannis project will continue through November 13th, with crews working at the Six-Points intersection, along Main Street and on North Street.
According to the town’s latest weekly construction update, work is scheduled Monday through Friday, November 9–13, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures in the affected areas, although town officials say no full road closures are anticipated at this time.
At the Six-Points intersection, crews will continue roadway preparation, drainage improvements and underground utility work. The intersection is a key component of the broader downtown improvement project, which includes plans for a new roundabout designed to improve traffic circulation.
Along Main Street, construction will continue on curb ramps designed to improve accessibility and meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
Crews will continue preparing areas for new accessible curb ramps, moving west along Main Street from Ocean Street before shifting to the opposite side of the roadway.
On North Street, workers will conduct utility markouts and cut existing pavement in preparation for the installation of new curbs.
The town says the Department of Public Works will notify affected businesses directly as construction progresses, providing more specific information about work locations and any anticipated impacts on access.
Coordination is also continuing with Verizon and Eversource in preparation for utility pole relocations associated with the project.
The Great Streets Downtown Hyannis initiative is a major effort to improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety and accessibility throughout the downtown area.
The project includes converting portions of the existing one-way street network to two-way traffic, improving pedestrian crossings and creating better connections for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
The planned changes are also intended to support downtown businesses by improving access and circulation through the commercial district.
Construction is expected to continue into 2027 as crews complete roadway improvements, utility work and other infrastructure upgrades.
Town officials caution that weekly construction schedules may change depending on weather conditions and circumstances encountered in the field.
