HARWICH – The Harwich Fire Department is recognizing one of its firefighters following the successful completion of an intensive training program at the Massachusetts Fire Academy.
Firefighter Ryan Sargent graduated Friday, November 6, from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Career Recruit Firefighter Training Program, completing 10 weeks of instruction designed to prepare full-time municipal firefighters for the challenges of their profession.
The 50-day program consists of 40 hours of training each week, Monday through Friday, providing recruits with both classroom instruction and hands-on experience in essential firefighting skills.
Training covers a wide range of emergency response techniques, including hose handling, ladder operations, fire attack, building construction, pump operations, and search and rescue procedures.
The program is designed to establish a foundation of knowledge and practical skills that firefighters will continue to develop throughout their careers.
The Massachusetts Fire Academy, operated by the Department of Fire Services, provides training to firefighters across the Commonwealth, helping prepare recruits to respond to fires and other emergencies in their communities.
In a social media announcement, the Harwich Fire Department congratulated Sargent on his accomplishment and welcomed him back to the department following his graduation.
Sargent now returns to Harwich with the additional training and experience gained through the academy program, continuing his service to the community.
