HYANNIS – From Hyannis Firefighters: Monday, in partnership with Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis Fire Department began carrying low-titer O whole blood.
Our Transfusion Medics can now deliver blood to patients in hemorrhagic shock at the scene and en route. Severe bleeding is the leading preventable cause of death after injury, and every minute without blood decreases a patient’s chance of survival. Care that used to begin at the trauma bay now begins the moment we arrive!
This is a regional asset, available to every department on Cape Cod, on any call that needs it, in any town.
