YARMOUTH – From Yarmouth Police: Yarmouth Police detectives arrested Joseph Tinkham, 44, of South Yarmouth on drug related charges Thursday night following a traffic stop.
Just after 7 PM, detectives initiated a traffic stop on a newer model white Jeep Compass after the vehicle failed to signal while making a right turn. Upon stopping the vehicle, a detective approached the passenger side and observed Tinkham, a Level 3 Sex Offender with prior convictions for carrying dangerous weapons and narcotics violations, moving around frantically.
Tinkham was ordered out of the car and following a pat frisk, officers discovered a small green rubber capsule containing cocaine in his sweatshirt. Multiple smart phones and cash were also found on him.
Tinkham was arrested for possession of crack cocaine. The driver of the vehicle was given a verbal warning for the turn signal violation and was allowed to leave.
Following Tinkham’s booking at the police station, Yarmouth Police K9 Gauge conducted a sniff of the air coming from Tinkham and indicated the presence of narcotics.
When Tinkham removed his sneakers, a small black sock rolled into a ball fell out. Inside the sock contained, officers discovered a small, knotted sandwich bag containing a white, rock-like substance that tested positive for cocaine base. A second knotted sandwich bag containing an off-white powder was in the sock and tested positive for fentanyl.
Joseph Tinkham was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class A substance (Fentanyl – 3.84 g) and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B substance (Crack Cocaine – 13.73 g). He was arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Friday where his bail was revoked. He remains in custody.
The Yarmouth Police Department remains committed to proactively addressing drug-related activity and ensuring the safety of the community.
