DENNIS – An overnight fire damaged a house in Dennis. Firefighters responded to Indian Trail shortly before 12:30 AM Wednesday. The fire reported started on a porch and had begun to spread into the home. Everyone safely evacuated and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire rendered the house uninhabitable and the Red Cross is providing temporary shelter for the displaced residents.
From Dennis Fire: The Dennis Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at a residence on 70 Indian Trail at approximately 12:28 AM.
A resident on the second floor reported seeing fire extending up the exterior side of the home. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire extending from the deck up the side of the residence and into the attic.
A working fire assignment was requested, bringing additional mutual aid resources from the Harwich, Yarmouth and Brewster fire departments. Additional mutual aid companies were also assigned to provide station coverage within the town while local crews operated at the scene.
Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire and conducted extensive overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and that there was no remaining fire extension.
There were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters. The American Red Cross responded to the scene and is assisting the affected residents with their immediate needs.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Preliminary information indicates the fire may have originated from a fire pit located on an exterior deck. The investigation remains ongoing.
The Dennis Fire Department reminds residents to use extreme caution when using outdoor fire pits and to ensure they are positioned a safe distance from structures, decks, and other combustible materials.
