Plympton woman facing OUI charges after driving into Onset cove

WAREHAM –
A Plympton woman is facing OUI charges after driving her car into Broad Cove in Onset on New Year’s Eve.

Wareham Police responded to the area of Locust St. and Upland Rd. in Onset around 10:30 p.m. for the report of a vehicle submerged approximately 50-75 feet.

Responders determined the vehicle was occupied by two people who made it to shore. The male and female occupants were transported to Tobey Hospital due to possible weather and water exposure issues.

A ten-pack of vodka nip bottles with 6 bottles remaining was recovered from the immediate area of the male and female.

During investigation of the incident, the occupants, both of whom appeared intoxicated, denied operating the vehicle.

Further investigation led to the determination that the female, 22 year old Meghan Gagnon, was the operator and was headed with her male companion to a friend’s house in the thickly settled neighborhood, when she lost control of the vehicle and drove into the shallow water.

Gagnon has been charged with OUI Liquor, and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle. She will receive a summons to appear at Wareham District Court regarding the criminal charges.
