HYANNIS — Residents will have an opportunity next month to voice concerns and ask questions about aircraft noise at the Cape Cod Gateway Airport during a public roundtable discussion.
The airport will host the Cape Cod Gateway Airport Noise Abatement Roundtable on Wednesday, September 16, at 6 p.m. at Knights Auditorium at Barnstable High School, 744 West Main Street in Hyannis.
The meeting is intended to give residents and airport neighbors an opportunity to learn more about noise abatement measures currently being pursued by the airport and to discuss concerns directly with airport officials, community stakeholders and aviation experts.
The September 16 event will be the first of what is expected to be a series of public noise abatement roundtables. The discussions follow several months of conversations between airport staff and community stakeholders, some of whom will serve as panelists during the upcoming meeting.
Yarmouth Town Administrator Robert Whritenour is encouraging residents to participate.
“Yarmouth residents have been granted an opportunity to weigh in on noise issues from the Cape Cod Gateway Airport, and we’re grateful to the airport for including us,” Whritenour said. “Yarmouth residents should participate by filing comments and questions, and they are asked to attend the meeting. It’s a great chance to be heard and to participate in making regional improvements for our community.”
Residents are encouraged to submit questions ahead of the meeting by emailing [email protected]. Airport officials said advance questions will help organizers streamline the discussion and address as many community concerns as possible.
The meeting will be held in person, with an option for residents to participate remotely through Zoom. Details for virtual participation can be obtained by contacting the airport at the same email address.
The roundtable comes as aircraft noise continues to be a concern for some residents living near the airport and along flight paths. The airport has been working with community stakeholders on measures intended to reduce the impact of aircraft operations on surrounding neighborhoods.
Residents can review information about the airport’s current noise abatement measures through the Cape Cod Gateway Airport website before attending the meeting.
