OSTERVILLE – Motorists traveling through a portion of Osterville can expect road closures and detours beginning next week as the Town of Barnstable resumes sewer construction on Bumps River Road.
According to town officials, construction is scheduled to begin as early as Monday, November 2, as part of the Route 28 West Sewer Expansion Project.
The work will be performed by Robert B. Our Co. Inc., a contractor working for the town.
During construction hours, Bumps River Road will be closed between Osterville-West Barnstable Road and Pond Street.
Work is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday, from approximately 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.
Detour signs will be posted to direct motorists around the construction area. Town officials say access will be maintained for local residents and businesses throughout the project.
Construction along this section of Bumps River Road is expected to continue through the end of December.
The work is part of Barnstable’s ongoing Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan, a long-term initiative designed to expand municipal sewer service and address wastewater management needs throughout the town.
The Route 28 West Sewer Expansion Project is one of several sewer infrastructure projects underway in Barnstable as the town works to expand wastewater collection and treatment capabilities.
Motorists traveling through the area are encouraged to follow posted detours, use caution near construction equipment and allow additional travel time.
Residents and businesses seeking additional information, including project documents, previous public meetings and construction updates, can visit the town’s Route 28 West Sewer Expansion Project website.
Questions about the project can also be directed to Christopher Gadd, communications assistant with the Barnstable Department of Public Works, at 508-790-6400.
