Video: State Police Bomb Squad detonates ordnance found in Orleans


ORLEANS – From Orleans Police at 5 PM Tuesday: Town authorities will conduct a controlled detonation at the Orleans Transfer Station between now and 5:30 PM today as part of a planned disposal procedure. Residents and visitors may hear a loud noise during this window. This is expected and is being managed by Orleans Fire-Rescue, Orleans Police, and other public safety partners. There is no cause for concern and no action is needed from residents.

Further update from Orleans Police: The Orleans Police Department, Orleans Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, and the United States Navy recently responded to Rock Harbor after a deteriorating piece of military ordnance was located near the shoreline.
The item was safely secured and removed from the area before being destroyed by Massachusetts State Police Bomb Technicians and the United States Navy.

Please remember: If you come across an item that appears to be military ordnance, a shell, or other military ammunition, DO NOT TOUCH OR MOVE IT. Move away from the area and immediately contact the Orleans Police Department or Orleans Fire Department.
