Strong storms hit Cape, tree down on car in Osterville

OSTERVILLE – Strong storms moved across Cape Cod Monday morning..A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the extreme outer Cape.

About 8:15 AM a tree came down on a vehicle on Main Street in Osterville. The driver reportedly escaped without injury. Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills (COMM) Fire issued the following statement: At 0816 this morning COMM Fire received a report of a motor vehicle crash with a tree on top of a car. COMM responded with an Ambulance, Engine, and command vehicle, and upon arrival found two large trees uprooted and across Main street with a SUV under one of the trees. The occupant of the vehicle had self extricated and was uninjured. The trees had also fallen on primary wires and had pulled them down on an adjacent building. There was no arcing or fire to the vehicles, structures, or wires. COMM evacuated nearby buildings, established a safety perimeter around the effected poles and wires, notified Eversource and the Barnstable DPW. Barnstable Police arrived to take over traffic control. Eversource arrived and cut power to the immediate area and was waiting arrival of tree and repair crews. Main Street Osterville in the area of West Bay Rd remains closed until removal of the tree and electrical repairs completed.

Elsewhere a 63 MPH wind gust was reported at Provincetown Municipal Airport and another tree was reported down in Wellfleet on Old County Road near Cottontail Road.

Eversource was reporting scattered outages across the Cape.
