YARMOUTH — Thousands of people gathered in Yarmouth over the past several days to pay tribute to the men and women who served and sacrificed during the Vietnam War as The Wall That Heals made its only Massachusetts stop of the 2026 national tour.
The three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., was on display at Parker’s River Landing from Thursday through Sunday, providing visitors with the opportunity to walk along the 375-foot memorial, locate the names of loved ones and reflect on the sacrifices of those who served.
Closing ceremonies were held Sunday at Parker’s River Landing. The ceremony included the retiring of the colors and Taps before the dismantling of The Wall began.
The Wall was available to the public around the clock throughout its Yarmouth visit and was free and open to all ages. The event also featured a mobile Education Center with exhibits about the Vietnam War, the Memorial and the service members whose names appear on The Wall.
The memorial bears the names of 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War. More than 3 million Americans served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the conflict.
The Yarmouth event featured several ceremonies during its four-day stay. The weekend began with a blessing of The Wall by the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and a Welcome Home Ceremony on Thursday. Friday included a wreath-laying ceremony and an Agent Orange Awareness Ceremony honoring veterans and families affected by exposure to Agent Orange.
Visitors also had opportunities to take part in educational tours and learn more about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the local service members represented on the memorial. The exhibit included displays recognizing Hometown Heroes from Cape Cod, the Islands and Massachusetts, as well as a Missing Man Table honoring American service members who were prisoners of war or remain missing in action.
The Yarmouth stop was the 2026 tour’s only Massachusetts appearance. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund’s national schedule included 31 communities during the 2026 tour, with Yarmouth following a stop in Putnam, Connecticut, and preceding the next stop in Oneonta, New York.
The Wall That Heals is a program of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and is the only traveling exhibit affiliated with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The exhibit has traveled to communities across the country since its debut in 1996, bringing the memorial and its educational mission to people who might not otherwise be able to visit Washington.
