FALMOUTHFrom Falmouth Police: On August 19, 2026, the Falmouth Police Department executed an arrest warrant and search warrant following a months-long joint investigation with the Cape Cod DEA Task Force into narcotics distribution on Cape Cod. The operation was assisted by the Mashpee Police Department, Yarmouth Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, and Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 10:45 AM, the target of the investigation, Elias Almeida, 22, of Dorchester (left), was located at 1 Wampanoag Drive in Mashpee. Almeida was identified and taken into custody without incident.

During the arrest, officers located approximately 65 grams of a white, rock-like substance on Almeida’s person. The substance was subsequently tested and produced a presumptive positive result for cocaine.

Almeida was transported to the Falmouth Police Department, where he was booked on three arrest warrants and additionally charged with Trafficking in Cocaine, More Than 36 Grams but Less Than 100 Grams. Almeida was held on $10,000 bail and transported to the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.

During Almeida’s arrest, the operator of the vehicle that had transported him to Mashpee fled the scene at a high rate of speed. While fleeing, the operator allegedly drove directly toward officers and nearly struck them.

Officers immediately began searching the area for the vehicle and suspect with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, Falmouth Police Department Drone Unit, and K9 units.

The suspected vehicle was located abandoned a short distance away. Shortly afterward, a Falmouth Police Officer observed an Uber vehicle traveling in the area under circumstances that drew the officer’s attention. The vehicle was stopped, and officers located the fleeing suspect slouched down in the rear passenger seat.

Kendrell Gilbert, 20, of Brockton (right), was placed under arrest and charged with Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Motor Vehicle), Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop for Police, Resisting Arrest, Disturbing the Peace and Disorderly Conduct. Gilbert was held on $5,000 bail and transported to the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.

FPD K9 Kepo assisted officers with a search of the vehicle and surrounding area for narcotics. FPD K9 Renata also assisted with a search for firearms that may have been discarded while Gilbert fled from officers.

The Falmouth Police Department, in conjunction with partner agencies, remains committed to investigating narcotics distribution in our community. We would like to thank all the agencies who assisted and the numerous specialized units who continue to keep the community safe.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
