WELLFLEET – From Wellfleet Police: The Wellfleet Police Department mourns the passing of retired Lieutenant William E. Brooks, affectionately known as “Billy” or “Brooksie” to his friends and colleagues.
Bill began his career serving as a call firefighter with the Wellfleet Fire Department before joining the Wellfleet Police Department at age 20. During his distinguished career, he became the department’s first detective, served several times as interim Chief, and retired as Lieutenant in 1990.
Known for his dedication, investigative skills, steady leadership, and wonderful sense of humor, Bill served the Town of Wellfleet with distinction for many years. He was a trusted colleague and a valued friend who was there when the department and community needed him most.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Lynn, and all of his family and friends. A memorial service is being planned for next June.
Rest in peace, Lieutenant Brooks. Thank you for your service and dedication to the Wellfleet community. You will be missed.
