BOURNE – A woman was rescued from the frigid waters of the Cape Cod Canal early Thursday afternoon and rushed to a hospital. Multiple police and fire units including boats moved into the area to investigate and check for any other possible victims.
From Bourne Police: At approximately 12:43 PM, Officers from the Bourne Police Department responded to the Cape Cod Canal for a report of a female in the water. Upon arrival, Officers confirmed that there was a female in the water who was not able to make it to shore on her own. Rescue attempts were difficult due to female’s distance from shore and the tide. With assistance from multiple agencies, the 31-year-old female from Wareham was rescued from the water and transported to an area hospital. There were also unconfirmed reports of a second person in the water. An investigation was conducted by the agencies involved, and it was determined that there were no other individuals in the water. The matter was determined to NOT be related to a criminal incident.
The Bourne Police Department would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance in this rescue: Bourne Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, US Army Corps, Harbormaster, US Coast Guard, Wareham Police, and Wareham EMS.
