Before leaving for a six month deployment to Kuwait, Senior Airman Mark Castiglione and his family planned a family vacation on Cape Cod.
On their way, they came upon a very serious accident involving a pick-up truck with three passengers and a minivan with a deer trapped under its front bumper.
The pick-up truck had three passengers including an elderly female as well as a middle-aged male and female. The truck had flipped on its side and as Senior Airman Castiglione began to extract the first passenger, the truck caught on fire. Another motorist, who had also stopped, used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire as Mark continued to pull all three passengers out of the burning vehicle.
All three were safely out of the vehicle when the Fire/Rescue/State Police arrived. Thanks to Mark’s bravery and quick action three people survived the burning crash.
