The Short List – Best Summer Events

Welcome to the Short List!
The Short List is a place to share opinions and discover new things about Cape Cod. This week we’re sharing our favorite summer events, hand picked by CCB-Media staff members. What do you think? Did we cover them all? If not, add yours and we’ll republish later taking in the opinions of all the readers.

1. Father’s Day Car Show

The annual Father’s Day Car Show is one of the Cape’s largest annual events. Hundreds of classic cars line Main Street in Hyannis. Anywhere from 50,000 to 60,000 people attend the event, making it the largest non-sporting annual event on Cape Cod.

2. Barnstable County Fair

The Barnstable County Fair, currently held at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds, began its life in 1844 when the Barnstable Agricultural Society had its first fair. As one of the most popular events on Cape Cod, the fair has grown throughout the years and includes a number of different acts, attractions and other fun things to do for the whole family.

3. 4th of July Festivities – Parades and Fireworks

4th of July festivities on Cape Cod have become legendary and are fantastic for the whole family. Catching some fireworks at your favorite beach with friends and family or watching a parade go by with your kids can be a great way to spend some time over the holiday. 4. Concerts at the Melody Tent

For over 60 years the Melody Tent has been a popular destination on the Cape featuring a wide variety of performers with seats right by the stage. If you love music, you have to watch a concert at the Melody Tent in the summer or bring the kids to a kid friendly show! The Melody Tent is run by a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the arts throughout the communities of Cape Cod.

5. Pops by the Sea

The Pops by the Sea concert is Cape Cod’s largest single cultural event, attracting more than 12,000 people since 1986. Having been voted as one of Cape Cod’s top events for many years, the Pops by the Sea concert brings one of the nation’s best musical ensembles together, the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. This is the only Cape appearance by the orchestra. The concert takes place on the Hyannis Village Green, selling out on a regular basis. Featuring a variety of seating options, including VIP tables, festival seating and lawn space, the Pops by the Sea concert helps to promote, support and celebrate arts and culture on Cape Cod. The concert takes place in August.
Falmouth Road Race

6. Falmouth Road Race

The Falmouth Road Race is an annual road race that takes place in August in Falmouth, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. This event has happened annually for over forty years and benefits charities from all over the Cape and beyond. Participation in this Cape Cod tradition has numbered over 10,000 with experienced runners and amateurs taking to the road, including runners from outside the country. The start of the race is in front of the Woods Hole Community Center and then proceeds for 7 miles to Falmouth Heights Beach near Grand Avenue.

7. Anything at the Beach

The Cape is renowned for its gorgeous beaches and they do not disappoint. Grab some sandwiches and head out for a day of relaxation or catch a sunset before heading in for the evening.
