Art class Combines the natural beauty of Provincetown’s Dunes with Historic Harbor Location

Art’s Dune Tours began introducing visitors to the mysterious and magical dunes of Provincetown in 1946. For decades, the dunes have served as an inspirational backdrop for artists of all kinds. Now, visitors have the opportunity to experience this sandy muse with a new excursion – Art with Art’s.

From Jackson Pollack and Tennessee Williams to Eugene O’Neil and Harry Kemp, the small strip of windswept dunes has sparked creativity in some of America’s most well-known artists. Even today, many of the dune shacks are home to artists in residence. They live in the dunes for period of time, cut off from the rest of the world as they contemplate, meditate, and most importantly – create their art.

Rob Costa, Art’s son, now runs Art’s Dune Tours. In addition to the daily one-hour tour of the dunes, which gives visitors a history lesson, as well as information about the flora, fauna, and wildlife that call the dunes home, he’s added new ways to experience and enjoy the dunes.

Art with Art’s is a unique tour that allows for an artistic encounter with the dunes. “It’s easy to see why they inspire so many people. I call it the Provincetown Outback. You come out here and you feel like you’re in a completely different place,” said Costa.

Art with Art’s is a 6-hour adventure that takes you into the dunes of Provincetown, leaving you with two distinctive pieces of your own artwork. Everything is provided – all you need to bring is your own sense of creativity.

The day begins with a classic dune tour, where you’ll take in the beauty of the dunes and learn all about the unique ecosystem. You’ll then meet a local artist at one of the highest points demonstrating watercolor painting.Imagine being high atop a dune with the Atlantic Ocean in view, then turning to see views of Provincetown, including the Monument, and beautiful wind swept dunes all around you. It will be hard to pick just one subject.

Upon returning to Provincetown, you’ll take in another painting adventure class with Painting Ptown at the historic Red Inn, located on Provincetown Harbor.

At the end, you’ll leave with two unique pieces of art created by you, in a setting that’s been inspiring artists for decades.
