Gardening: What to Do in June

Have you driven past other houses, gazed at the gardens, and thought HOW DO THEY DO THAT?

We’re here to help.

Each month CapeCod.com will bring you tips and tricks to get your garden in shape.

Horticulturist Jeanie Gillis of Pine Tree Nursery tells you what to expect this month as well a homework sheet for the month of June.

Celebrate the June Strawberry Moon and have fun at a pick your own site. Use netting on your own strawberry plants to keep all the other guests in the garden from dining.

Lilacs love lime!!!! Fertilize and add lime to your lilacs after flowering.

Pinch back often, Chrysanthemums, Asters, Sedum Autumn Joy and Montauk Daisies. Do this until the 4th of July to keep plants low and full.

Succulents are hot right now. They’re rustic, modern and easy to grow. Great for first time or forgetful gardeners.

Dahlias are the flower factory of the garden. Plant some today.

Radishes from the garden taste totally different from the ones in the supermarket. Plant continuously all summer for fresh crops.

There is still time while it is cool to dig, divide and transplant your perennials.

Prune back and shape your flowering trees and shrubs as soon as they finish flowering.

BEE Happy!!!  Stop by Pine Tree Nursery and pick out some pollinator plants to make the Bees and You HAPPY!
