Homeowner’s Headquarters: A Discussion with Mid-Cape Home Centers

Welcome to Homeowner’s Headquarters, brought to you by the good folks at Mid-Cape Home Centers.

Each week, we will have a discussion with a builder on Cape Cod to talk about what they do, where to find them and the processes involved. Listen to our chat below, read the article and check out more information on Mid-Cape Home Centers.

Mid-Cape has multiple locations throughout the Cape, and is celebrating their 125th anniversary.

“We’re very excited about our 125th anniversary coming up and, honestly, I don’t think it would be possible for us to have stayed in business for so long if we weren’t so focused on service and a commitment to constant evolution in order to better to serve our local market here on the Cape and the South Shore,” said Crystal Pieschel, Marketing Director for Mid-Cape Home Centers.

Mid-Cape Home Centers is a building materials supplier but, Pieschel said, when it comes to their customers, they have a very strong focus on relationships, whether they’re in the building industry or they’re home owners. “We really like to see ourselves as partners and a value-adding resource for our customers in whatever project they may be working on,” she said.

Pieschel also said Mid-Cape has put a strong focus on specialty areas in recent years, such as kitchens, windows and doors.

Pam DeVenuti, the Architectural Products Manager for Mid-Cape, heads up the window and door departments at the company’s six locations, and also functions as their lead Architectural Rep.

“The trends that I’m seeing in architecture are for large expanses of glass, bringing the outdoors in, more modern or contemporary-style architecture … very minimalistic,” she said. “So, it has changed quite a bit. We still obviously see a lot of traditional architecture on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard and the South Shore, but I am seeing a push toward more modern design.”

For the harsh weather conditions that the Cape often experiences, DeVenuti said Mid Cape offers a variety of products that are tailored to fit that specific need. These products are designed and engineered to perform in coastal applications. And custom work is no problem.

“We have product specialists in our showrooms at both our Orleans and South Dennis locations to assist customers and homeowners who want to come in and look at remodeling or pick out a new patio door or a few windows,” DeVenuti said. “Then we have three architectural representatives in the field who assist architects and contractors with all different types of projects, whether it’s a small remodel, right through to luxury residential homes as well as commercial projects.”

Kitchen designer Becky Stolz, focuses on the design of anything that involves cabinets and countertops (not just kitchens and baths), and works heavily with contractors and their clients.

“Typically, the first appointment would actually be at the house if it’s a remodel, to be able to see the space, take the measurements, and then start the design process from there, unless it’s a new house, and they are working on plans,” Stolz said. In this case, she added, they would initially meet in the showroom, based on the contractor’s referral.

In the showroom, she said, “We’re there as the guide to have the customers be able to make all the selections with (the contractor) not having to be bogged down with all those details.”

In design trends, Stolz is seeing white. “Definitely white cabinetry, and that’s been around for about 10 years while, before that, there was more variation in cabinets,” she said. “Everything is clean lines and neutral colors.” She added that while everyone’s going to classic looks, she’s seeing more modern trends coming onto the Cape.

A full-service lumber yard, Mid-Cape Home Centers is committed to providing building supplies and experience that will help southeastern Massachusetts remain one of the best places to live in America. Mid-Cape can help you through every step of your project, and see why their commitment to service is one of the many contributing factors that make the Mid-Cape experience one of a kind.

Pieschel added, “Listening to Pam and Becky talk just reminds me of how proud I am of our team here, and the level of expertise that they allow Mid Cape to deliver.”
