An Evening with Lisa Genova, Wed, 1/30, 6:30, Sandwich Public Library

Titcomb’s Bookshop and the Sandwich Public Library are delighted to welcome author Lisa Genova for a discussion about her newest book, “Every Note Played.” The story concerns a musician who’s diagnosed with ALS, and follows him as his ex-wife becomes his caretaker. A donation of $10 per person is requested and the proceeds will be donated to the ALS Family Charitable Foundation, Inc. in Buzzards Bay. Paperback copies of the novel will be available for purchase.

Celebration of Mentoring, Thurs, 1/31, 6:30 PM, Cape Cod Beer, Hyannis

This is the 3rd Annual Celebration of Mentoring! The event is hosted yearly for current Bigs & the community, especially potential volunteers, to learn about the work Big Brothers Big Sisters is doing, and our different volunteer opportunities. It is a great opportunity to speak with current & alumni Bigs about their first-hand experience volunteering with their Littles!

Dancing for a Cure’s Dance Marathon, Sat, 2/2, 4:30-8:30 PM, Mashpee High School

Grab your dancing shoes and get ready to boogie the night away for four hours of non-stop dancing to benefit the Friends of Dana Farber in Boston for research to find a cure for breast and ovarian cancer. If you don’t think you’re up for that much dancing, come cheer on the dancers from the bleachers or donate admission for someone else to come! Admission is $20, all ages are welcome, and you’ll also enjoy food, raffles, t-shirts, and trophies for the winning dancers. Register at the door day of or at dancingforacure.net

The Rip It Ups, Sat, 2/2, 8 PM, Cultural Center of Cape Cod, Yarmouth

It’s a Music Cafe Dance Party with the Rip It Ups, who’ll be playing their unique brand of original, energetic rock. . BYO Refreshments. cultural-center.org

5th Annual Super Bowl Sunday Polar Bear Plunge, Sun, 2/3, Craigville Beach, Centerville 

This invigorating ocean plunge is a fundraising initiative to support the daily operations at the MSPCA-Cape Cod. Not up for a swim? Then join the cheering section, raise funds, and support our brave polar bears! Any donation over $50 earns a Super bowl Sunday Polar Bear Plunge shirt! Complimentary chowder, nibbles, and a cash bar available at the post-Plunge “thaw.” Registration’s at 11:15; the Plunge happens at noon.
