Summer Bucket List: Hit the Greens and Play Golf!

Welcome to CapeCod.com’s Summer Bucket List series, brought to you by the good folks at Cape Cod Calling. Each week, we will bring you a new idea for you to enjoy your summer here on Cape Cod.

It will come as no surprise to anyone that our sandy spit of land is known for its amazing golf courses – over three dozen in all, according to the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce.

Whether you’re just beginning or a professional player, Cape Cod’s 27 public courses and 15 private facilities run the gamut of skill levels. Well-manicured fairways and greens beckon golfers to the area, as does the Cape’s mild climate, which often allows golfers the unique opportunity to potentially play all year long! Many have glorious views that you won’t see anywhere else.

There are championship courses here, as well as classic nine-hole courses that date back to the 1890s, and three of the finest par-54 golf courses in the country. There are also top-flight golf schools throughout the region, and many offer classes to beginners as well as those who want to sharpen their skills, taught by PGA Pros!

Some of the most widely renowned golf course architects have had a hand in sculpting Cape Cod’s scenic golf vistas, including the Bayberry Hills Golf Course in West Yarmouth, Bass River Golf Course in South Yarmouth, The Cape Club in North Falmouth, Blue Rock Golf Course in South Yarmouth, The Captains Golf Course (Starboard & Port) in Brewster, Dennis Pines and Dennis Highlands Golf Courses in Dennis, Miacomet Golf Course on Nantucket and the Ocean Edge Golf Club & Resort in Brewster.

According to golfadvisor.com, some of the best courses on Cape Cod include Kings Way Golf Club in Yarmouth Port; The Brookside Club in Bourne; and Falmouth Country Club. This is, however, only a tiny sampling of the stunning greens that dot the landscape of the Cape and Islands.

Several of these great Cape courses were also recently named in Golf Digest’s list of the Best Golf Courses in Massachusetts for 2019-2020. They were Eastward Ho! Country Club in Chatham; Hyannisport Club in Hyannis Port; Oysters Harbor Club in Osterville; and Cape Cod National Golf Club in Brewster.

Many also offer world-class restaurants on site, and beautiful club houses with pro-shops. Enjoy the quiet of the morning and spend a few hours on the course before heading in for some sustenance and time to recharge. Most restaurants offer such choices and steak, chicken, seafood, sandwiches, and lighter fare and, typically, a full bar. You can stay and play for a few hours, or take the whole day and really enjoy yourself.
