HYANNIS – A local philanthropist who died in 1876 will have his name etched in Barnstable’s new Early Learning Center.

The new center, which is currently under construction, will be named the Enoch Cobb Early Learning Center.

Cobb bequeathed 100 acres of land to the town of Barnstable following his death and requested that the money generated by the land be used to benefit Barnstable Public Schools.

Over the years, millions in grants have been used for school programs from the income generated by the Enoch Cobb Trust.
