Barnstable Police Arrest Man for Distributing Cocaine

HYANNIS – Barnstable and Dennis Police arrested 41-year-old Joseph Mendes at his home Thursday after several undercover cocaine purchases were made from him during their investigation.

Police were investigating Mendes for distributing cocaine in Hyannis and Dennis.

Mendes, who has a criminal record for violence and drug law violations, was recently released from a five year prison sentence for Possessing Cocaine With Intent to Distribute and Illegal Possession of a Firearm.

Barnstable Police obtained a search warrant for Mendes’ residence on South Yarmouth Rd. in Dennis and executed it Thursday morning at 6 a.m. with the Cape Cod Regional SWAT team.

Mendes was arrested after Detectives located a small quantity of cocaine, a digital scale and around $2000 in cash.

Police say the cocaine was hidden in Mendes’ front yard.

Mendes was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine With Intent to Distribute/Subsequent Offense.

Mendes was arraigned Thursday in Orleans District Court and is being held on $10,000 bail.
