Barnstable Village Renews Cultural District Status

BARNSTABLE – The Barnstable Town Council approved the renewal of the cultural district designation for Barnstable Village through the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Cultural Districts program on July 18.

A MCC Cultural District is defined as an area that provides a center for arts, local business, and tourism.

Barnstable Village originally gained this recognition in March 2014.

“Renewing this cultural district presents an opportunity to strengthen the village’s programming efforts, support the town’s existing arts and cultural initiatives, provide new opportunities for the creative economy, and enhance the cultural collaborations within all of our villages year-round,” said Arts and Culture Coordinator Melissa Chartrand.

“Barnstable Village will continue to leverage the designation to receive marketing support and grants through the Massachusetts Cultural Council, as well as other funding sources,” Chartrand said.

Barnstable is one of only two towns in the state with two state designated cultural districts.
