‘Beginner BeeKeeping Courses Being Offered by Cape Cod’s Nature Place

BREWSTER – Lots of people find bees to be an annoyance, some even find them scary. Others, however, are fascinated with the little black and yellow creatures that you don’t want to mess with.

Cape Cod’s Nature Place is inviting all bee lovers to Beginner BeeKeeping next month.

The course is designed for those who want to get into bee keeping, or for those who simply want to learn more about the “busy bees” who provide delicious honey and pollenate many fruits and vegetables. No prior knowledge or experience with bee keeping is required to attend.

The course will cover the required hardware, the biology of the honey bee, bee keeping tasks through the seasons as well as the honey harvest. The Museum’s four out-door hives will give the opportunity to get a hands on experience on how to assemble the hardware, how to start a new hive (the “hiving procedure”) and how to assess the health of a developing hive.

Registration for the course is $65. Three courses will be offered throughout February from 6:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. at the Museum. Courses will be held on February 5, February 12, and February 19.
