HYANNIS PORT – One of the largest charitable events of the season returned to Cape Cod this past weekend with the arrival of the 20th annual Best Buddies Challenge Hyannis Port.

Thousands of people took part in the weekend-long fundraiser to support people with developmental disabilities.

The event began on Friday with Tom Brady Football Challenge at Harvard Stadium in Boston.

On Saturday, hundreds of cyclist biked 100 miles from Boston to Hyannis Port as part of the challenge.

There was also a 50-mile route, starting at the CVS in Carver, and a 20-mile route, beginning at the CVS on Tupper Road in Sandwich.

The Challenge wrapped up Saturday night with a clambake and a private concert.

Massachusetts born actor Michael Chiklis said that the entire event brings out the best in people.

“I’m smiling all day especially just since last night, we come together and play a football game with Tom Brady and the buddies and the faces on these kids when the greatest quarterback in the history of the game throws them a pass, we just have so much fun with them it’s so great,” he said.

“Then we get up in the morning, and I love the morning too because there’s hundreds of bike riders and everyone’s there at 6’o clock in the morning and to see all these people, hundreds and hundreds of people getting up first thing in the morning to take a 100 mile or 50 mile or 20 mile bike ride to benefit these kids and it just makes your heart feel good it makes you feel like there are lots of good people in the world and a lot of people want to help,” he said.

“It is life changing to get to see the people that come across this line, there’s one lady down here that has volunteered for 14 years and she comes back and she showed up this morning and here she was and she said I’m here to help,” said Director of Programs for Best Buddies Missy Naff added,

Brady once again served as one of the honorary co-chairs of the event, along with celebrity chef Guy Fieri.

The Best Buddies Challenge supports Best Buddies International, a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for the one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
