Brewster Home Collapses As Town Battles Erosion

BrewsterBREWSTER – Brewster officials are evaluating damage from erosion after this storm-filled winter, and a home on Muskrat Lane is one of Mother Nature’s victims.

The home partially collapsed recently. Town officials are working with the owner of the home to get the structure torn down.

“Every year we’re seeing a good foot of erosion in this area,” said Chris Miller, Brewster’s Natural Resources and Public Works Director, “and with storms we can lose quite a bit more and that’s what happened here. It’s gotten to the point where the house is starting to collapse.”

But erosion issues are not just limited to the area of Muskrat Lane. Miller said many other locations along the bay are dealing with the same problems.

“We’re evaluating each of our small landings and our public beaches to see what the erosion rate is and what we can do. We are currently nourishing a bunch of our beaches trying to combat the erosion,” he said.
