Bringing The Needy Joy For The Holidays

ORLEANS – For the 24th year, the Homeless Prevention Council is doing their Adopt-A-Family program.

Participants bring joy and surprise to a child or family in need.

Last year 330 children in 155 families had a warm and happy holiday due to the generosity of donors.

The coordinator of the program, Maureen  Linehan,  explains that “The reason why we started this was because families would come to us in January saying they need help with their rent, and we would say ‘Why?’ and they said ‘Because we wanted to make Christmas happen’.”

If you can’t decide or don’t have time to shop, you can make a donation to the HPC and volunteers will do the shopping on your behalf.

Linehan says that the Council will “screen our client for the ones most in need and we ask for each child shirts, pants, coats and 2 special gifts.”

What kind of gifts are donated, such as toys or gift cards, are completely up to the participant.

This year’s drop-off is the former hearth and kettle at Skaket Corners Plaza in Orleans.
