WAREHAM – Local residents interested in taking a plunge into cold open waters can join the Buzzards Bay Coalition next weekend in Wareham.
An open swim event will be held Sunday, April 14 from 4 to 5 p.m. at Onset Beach.
Swimmers will brave the cold April water temperatures for the enjoyment of the sea followed by a hot cup of cocoa.
The average water temperature for this time of year in Onset Bay is around 40 degrees so a wetsuit, goggles, and a bright colored-cap are required.
Neoprene caps, booties and gloves are also recommended.
Friends and family members who would like to join us on a kayak for added safety are welcome and should also remember to dress for the weather.
Participants for the free event will meet on Onset Pier located on Onset Avenue.
Attendees should check the coalition’s Facebook page on the day of the swim for potential weather-related cancellations.
