HYANNIS – For a sixth straight year, Cape Cod Hospital has been named one of America’s 100 Great Community Hopsitals.
The recognition from “Becker’s Hospital Review” is based on quality of care and service to the community and shows the hospital is achieving strong results in patient care and satisfaction.
The list is compiled from the awards and rankings from several organizations, including Healthgrades, iVantage Health Analytics, Truven Health Analytics, CareChex, the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the Leapfrog Group.
“We’re first of all very honored to have the work recognized what we do here on a daily basis for all the members of our community that utilize our services,” said Dr. Donald Guadagnoli, the chief medical officer for Cape Cod Healthcare. “[It’s] really a great recognition of the dedicated work that is done day-in and day-out by our frontline clinical staff and our frontline support staff.”
Guadagnoli said the goal is to get local residents on the Cape the type of care they could expect to get in Boston without having to travel over an hour and a half to get there.
Cape Cod Hospital is the only facility in the state to make Becker’s 100 Great Community Hospitals 2017 list.
Cape Cod Healthcare has spent time and effort investing back into the organization and the hospital.
“Over the last few years we have put about $350 million back into the organization to make sure we have state of the art facilities both outpatient and inpatient and we’ve opened retail pharmacies,” Guadagnoli said.
Cape Cod Healthcare administration continues to be focused on patient care and physician and clinical staff that are providing services.
“We see it in the results that patients give us as far as satisfaction and rankings,” Guadagnoli said.
Guadagnoli said the constant changing of medicine and financing of healthcare are the challenges which the organization will face moving ahead.
“On the other hand it’s creating many opportunities for us,” he said. “As we move forward and we have more and more risk being thrust onto us we are becoming more and more focused on what we can do to care for the patient holistically.”
