HYANNIS – A Barnstable man has been recognized as the Big of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Bob Schulte will be honored for his impact on his little, Sean, and the agency since 2012.
Schulte has been referred to as the “Family Big” as he has supported not only cancer survivor Sean, but his three siblings and widowed mother.
Every year, agency affiliates across the country nominate on Big Brother or Big Sister to be considered for their state’s Big of the Year. In order to be named Big of the Year, mentors need to exhibit a strong influence over a little throughout their match.
Schulte said his relationship with Sean has been a “two-way street” and that Sean has taught him just as many life lessons.
“The impact that Bob has had on Sean, the Hanson family and our agency are all lifelong and will all live on beyond the ‘graduation’ of our program,” said JR Mell, the regional director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands.
“Bob will continue to be an example and a resource of how impactful our agency is and how being ‘Big’ to a ‘Little’ changes lives for all.”
The agency will formally honor Schulte on June 10 at the annual Golf For Kids Tournament.
The agency currently has many kids throughout Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard waiting to be matched with a Big. For more information or to sign up, visit capebigs.org.
