Careers In Insurance Can Begin At Cape Cod Community College

WEST BARNSTABLE – More than 700 people on Cape Cod are employed at one of the areas 130 insurance agency locations. 

As more and more baby- boomers reach retirement age, there is a growing demand in the industry for well-educated professionals.  It is estimated that around 70 openings need to be filled each year due to relocation and retirement. 

Cape Cod Community College’s Business Department has teamed up with the Cape Cod Insurance Agents Association to prepare students who are interested in a career in this field.   The program will lead  the participant to becoming a Certified Insurance Service Representative. 

Students will partake in a blend of four business courses along with insurance training tailored to the specific work situation being sought.  Some of  the positions that agency’s may need filled are in Customer Service, Human Resources, IT, Marketing and Management. 

It is estimated that around 25,000 Massachusetts insurance agency employees will retire within the next 2 years. 

The annual salary for someone who is a CISR averages around $47,000.  Most agencies also offer impressive fringe benefit packages.
