BOSTON (AP) — With the clock ticking down, the Massachusetts Health Connector is reaching out to get residents insured.
Officials say they’ve been visiting community organizations, passing out literature to commuters, visiting businesses and meeting with English as a Second Language classes to make sure people get signed up for insurance before the Tuesday deadline.
Massachusetts Health Connector Executive Director Louis Gutierrez said people without insurance should be aware that state and federal mandates remain in place, and that by not having coverage, they could face penalties of more than $1,000.
Residents can sign up for coverage at www.MAhealthconnector.org , over the phone at 1-877-623-6765, or in person through a local navigator organization.
The federal tax overhaul signed by President Donald Trump eliminates the federal individual mandate for purchasing health insurance starting in 2019.
