Community Substance Abuse Prevention Forum is Later This Month

HYANNIS–The 6th annual Community Substance Abuse Prevention Forum will be held on October 29 at Barnstable High School. The free event will provide resources and information to teach families and other community members about the presence of substances within young citizens in the area.

The forum is presented by the Barnstable Youth Commission, a group of high school students and other representatives in the town appointed by the Town Council.

Director of Recreation Patti Machado praised the commitment shown by the students to present a realistic representation to attendees.

“I think they’ve developed a really good program for our community to learn and understand what’s out there,” Machado said.

“It’s not just a movie of things that people think might be going on. This is real, and that’s what the youth really pushes for.”

The event begins at 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.townofbarnstable.us/youthservices.
