COTUIT – The Cotuit Center for the Arts will pay tribute to a Cape Cod landmark Saturday, August 3 with the opening of a new exhibit.
A visual, musical and culinary celebration of Joe Diggs: A Tribute to Joe’s Twin Villa runs from 2 to 11 p.m.
The Osterville hotspot was owned and operated for generations by the family of renowned artist Joe Diggs.
Although it is closed now, Joe’s Twin Villa will be remembered by its many Cape regulars for its down-home atmosphere, food, drink, and music.
The event will feature a lineup of bands, singers, dancing and food highlighted by Diggs’ artwork.
Diggs’ art explores what it means to be black in America through mixed media that combine action painting, photography, graffiti and collage.
Musical acts include Colleen Marshall, Sam Holmstock and Friends, Jamie Wolf, Maria Rose, and DJs from Joe’s Twin Villa.
The Upper Gallery will display a juried exhibition, ‘Proud 2 Be American,’ featuring the works of local artists as selected by jurors Diggs and Mara Williams, the curator of the Brattleboro Museum in Vermont.
Cotuit Center for the Arts is also excited to present “Voices of Cotuit,” a new program bringing the voices of artists to galleries. Guests will be able to use their smart phones to listen to recordings of current exhibitors discussing the history and inspiration behind their artwork.
For this latest exhibit, Diggs shares stories of the legacy of Joe’s Twin Villa, and of his previous exhibitions that led to this current series.
The tribute event is free and open to the public.
The exhibit runs through September 2.
