YARMOUTH – The head football coach at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School has been recognized by the New England Patriots as the High School Coach of the Year.

Dr. Paul Funk, who also serves as the school’s Vice Principal and Athletic Director, was honored by the Patriots in a ceremony on Wednesday.

Funk has also been nominated for the NFL Don Shula High School Coach of the Year Award. He and 31 other candidates from around the country have been invited to the NFL Pro Bowl in January.

The Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins capped an undefeated season with a 37-7 drubbing of West Springfield in the Division 5 Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium on December 2.

Dolphins quarterback Jacob McCarthy completed 14 of his 22 passes for 167 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

Running back/linebacker Robert Evans ran for two scores and returned an interception for a touchdown.

D-Y was one of two Cape Cod high schools to win a state football championship this season. Mashpee won their third straight state title by beating Blackstone Valley Tech in the Division 7 Super Bowl.
