Deliberations to Continue in Marathon Bombing Penalty Phase

gavelBOSTON (AP) — Jurors are set to return to federal court to resume deliberations on the punishment for Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

The jury of seven women and five men deliberated for about 8 ½ hours Wednesday and Thursday without reaching a verdict. The panel must decide whether the 21-year-old former college student will be put to death or sentenced to life in prison.

Tsarnaev was convicted last month of bombing the race with his older brother. Three people were killed and more than 260 were injured when two pressure cooker bombs planted by the brothers exploded near the marathon’s finish line on April 15, 2013.

The same jury will decide his sentence.

Deliberations will resume on Friday morning.
