NANTUCKET – Jo Ruxton, producer of the film A Plastic Ocean, will be giving a lecture hosted by the Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association.
Topics of her lecture will include her experiences as an ocean conservationist and the issues surrounding plastic pollution in the seas.
Ruxton began her conservation career in the 1980s, starting with the first marine program for the World Wildlife Foundation in Hong Kong.
She went on to lead the BBC Natural History Unit’s diving team as director and producer of underwater sequences of the films and series Blue Planet.
Ruxton’s later multi-award-winning documentary A Plastic Ocean was created from independently raised funds and a desire to provide more conservation messages.
As part of the summer Science Speaker series, the MMA will be hosting a speaker every Wednesday evening from 7-8pm and will feature astronomers, authors, environmentalist, biologists, professors, and doctors.
The event is free for MMA members and 10$ for Non-Members.
Ruxton will be giving her lecture at the Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association on July 3 from 7:00-8:00 pm at 33 Washington Street, Nantucket.
