Eversource Launches New, State-of-the-Art Outage Map

BOSTON – As fall turns to winter in Massachusetts, the Eversource outage map has proved to be a useful tool for home and business owners when power is affected by severe weather or other events.

This year, Eversource says the outage map is even better as it’s been upgraded to a state-of-the-art map that provides comprehensive information, allowing customers to zero-in on details related to an outage at their home or business.

“Our enhanced outage map, that’s available on Eversource.com now, is definitely the next generation of map compared to the one we had earlier. As technology changes, particularly in communications with customers, we adopt it because in this case it gives more information to customers that we’ve been hearing folks would like to have,” said Eversource Spokesman Mike Durand.

Customers can view up-to-the-minute outage information, including the number of customers affected, the time and cause of the outage, and an estimated time of restoration.  Eversource says customers can now also report an outage by using new features on the enhanced map.

Eversource launched its first phase of an ongoing effort to improve customer outage communications in December 2016, with the enhanced customer notification system. That feature provides customers with outage information and updates in the method they chose– text message, email, or phone.

“Our previous outage map was important and we got good feedback because it was giving information that wasn’t ordinarily available,” said Durand.

“With this particular map now, folks are able to dig down even deeper to get more information about localized outages that will include specifically where the outage is, and you can even get information based on your own street.”

Since then, customers have shared positive feedback with the energy company on the availability of more timely information.

As soon as information becomes available, such as estimated times of restoration, we’re able to post that now. So, there’s a number of enhancements that we can do with this particular software that we were unable to do with our original map,” Durand added.
