Fresh Air Fund Welcomes New York City Children to Cape Cod

FRESH AIR FUND

DENNIS – Children from New York City aged 7 to 18 were welcomed to Cape Cod on Thursday to enjoy one to two weeks of the summer in Cotuit, Brewster, and Barnstable.

The Fresh Air Fund made the trip possible, and brought the kids from NYC to South Dennis.

The children will be staying with volunteer host parents, like first-time host with Fresh Air Tricia O’Brien.

“My neighbor did it last year, and I became really interested in the program,” O’Brien explained.

“We have lots of kids, and we could actually use another kid for a couple of weeks, we’d love it! And so we pursued it, and we have this beautiful young lady with us.”

O’Brien will be welcoming Emajie Harris and Deredi O’Brien into their home. Harris is no stranger to this rewarding program.

“My third time, because I was with another family; it was an Amish family. I had two great sisters there, and a nice mother and dad,” Harris said.

Emajie and Deredi were both excited to spend the next week together in Cape Cod.

The Fresh Air Fund has been providing summer trips for New York City youths since 1877.
