Girly Girl P.A.R.T.S. Race to Silence Ovarian Cancer Taking Place This Weekend

Race Founders Lara Smith (Left) and Jill Di-Tommaso (Right)

CENTERVILLE – Hundreds of survivors and research advocates will gather at Craigville Beach in Centerville for the 9th Annual girlygirl P.A.R.T.S. 5k Run/ Walk to help end ovarian cancer on Saturday.

Back in 2008, Sandwich residents Jill Di-Tommaso and Lara Smith founded the 5K in an effort to raise money and awareness to fight the silent predator that claimed the life of Di-Tommaso back in 2015.

Currently, ovarian cancer is the 5th leading cause of cancer death in women, and had no effective screening tool, which ultimately leads to a shortened life expectancy for those diagnosed.

Since it’s founding, girlygirl has donated over $600,000 to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for the research and development of pre-screening technology, not including the $200,000 goal set for this race.

Participants will take to the start line Saturday at 9am.
