BARNSTABLE – The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts and Mass Audubon will be holding a grassland management workshop next week in Barnstable.

Grassland birds, which feed and nest only in grasslands and hay fields are disappearing at an alarming rate, according to the trust.

Many breeding grassland birds in Massachusetts have been identified as needing urgent conservation action.

Land managers and owners can make a difference in protecting these species with a number of simple management practices that are beneficial for the birds.

The aim of the workshop is to help land managers understand the issue, develop sustainable management practices and find creative ways to make a safe environment for the birds.

The workshop, which is designed for non-profits, environmental organizations, town and other land protection professionals and volunteers and land stewardship practitioners, will be held Friday, October 9, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary.

The cost of the workshop is $20 and to register contact Mark Robinson with the Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts by emailing [email protected] or by phone at 508-362-2565.
