Ground Broken for New Buzzards Bay Hampton Inn Hotel

BUZZARDS BAY-  Ground has officially been broken for the construction of a new Hampton Inn by Hilton hotel which will overlook the Cape Cod Canal in downtown Buzzards Bay.

Darling Hotels, a family owned company based in Seekonk, is working to develop the lodging facility which is part of an effort to revitalize the area.

“I think Mass Maritime has some need for hotel rooms with parents coming in and people visiting as well. There is some industry here,” said David Darling, President of the Darling Hotel Group.

“If people want to be able to be close to the Cape but not quite on Cape Cod, get to Plymouth a little bit easier, things like that, and hopefully get a view while they stay, this will be a great location for them,” Darling said.

The hotel on Perry Avenue, which is scheduled to open in 2019, includes architectural details to fit in with the traditional Cape Cod style.

“I think it means a lot for the village of Buzzards Bay first of all because the village, which used to be a major transportation hub years ago,” said Bourne Planning Board Chairman Elmer Clegg.

“It needs something to kick start the re-vitalization, and this is just such a great project to get that accomplished,” said Clegg.

“The hotel will hopefully be completed by June of next year with 100 rooms, and will be the latest and greatest Hampton Inn has to offer,” said Darling.

Hampton Inn is Hilton’s upper mid-scale brand with free continental breakfast, an indoor pool and free Wi-Fi.

This will be one of the only commercial hotel chains to have operations in that area.
