HYANNIS – Hyannis firefighters were called to a Hyannis apartment building at 215 Main Street early this morning after residents reported smelling gas.
Crews discovered a leak from the gas meter piping on the outside of the building just after 4 a.m., according to Captain Eric Farrenkopf.
Farrenkopf said firefighters had to dig through many feet of snow to get to the meter to shut off the gas and the apartments did not require evacuation.
National Grid was called to make repairs.
Fire crews were on scene for about an hour.
