BARNSTABLE – The hydrangea, which is the Cape’s signature flower, will be celebrated this year with the first ever Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival in July.

The festival will run for 10 days from July 10 to July 19 and will allow for visitors to see the beautiful blue, pink and white blooms while they are at their peak at the most spectacular Cape Cod gardens.

The festival will include tours of all types of private gardens organized by local non-profits and museums, along with special hydrangea-themed events and promotions.

Highlights from the festival include Hydrangeas at Highfield on July 12 which will include a number of guest speakers along with new hydrangea varieties on display around the grounds.

The Master Gardener Association will also present 11 gardens from Falmouth to Truro on July 13.

All are owned by Master Gardeners with some being professionals and others passionate amateurs.

All private gardens will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the day of the tour with a cost of $5.

The addresses of the gardens will be posted online the day before each tour at capecodchamber.org.
