YARMOUTH – Despite the snow banks piled high and cold temperatures, the Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade marched on its two-mile procession west down Route 28 in South Yarmouth and West Yarmouth under clear blue skies.

Bagpipers, marching bands, Irish setters, Irish musicians, including Cape Cod’s own Siobhan Magnus, and even unicycling flutists playing–what else–“When Irish Eyes are Smiling,” all made for a colorful event.

The merriment continues all day and evening as local restaurants offer special entertainment and meals to celebrate the event.

Free shuttle buses are available to take people between restaurants and hotels in town.

The Yarmouth Police Department will activate Operation Safe Ride Home on Saturday, March 7, starting at 6 p.m. on and ending at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 8.

Any citizen who needs a free and safe ride home from a Yarmouth licensed liquor establishment should call Town Taxi directly at 508-775-5555.

Operation Safe Ride Home is fully funded by local Yarmouth area businesses and involves a free and safe ride home to anyone from any Yarmouth liquor establishment. Some of the Yarmouth businesses who have provided funds for this program for the past 4 years are: Yarmouth Restaurant Association; Yarmouth Police Relief Association; Cape Cod Irish Village; Red Face Jack’s; Hallett Funeral Home; Davenport Realty; Jerome J. Manning Auctioneers; and Town Taxi.

Yarmouth Police Deputy Chief Steven Xiarhos said, “Impaired driving a very serious crime. Do not drink and drive and if you need a ride home take advantage of this highly successful program which will provide citizens with a free ride home anytime between 6 p.m. on Saturday and 2 a.m. on Sunday.”
