Lives of Young Addicts to be Acted Out in Prevention Play

drugsalcoholFALMOUTH – Teenagers as young as 14 will act out their introduction to, abuse of and recovery from drug and alcohol addiction in a stage setting this month.

Drug Story Theater, Inc., an organization which aims to help recovering young addicts by teaching them improvisational theater, will present their pilot program at the Lawrence School Auditorium, 113 Lakeview Avenue, on Thursday, March 24th at 7 p.m.

Some of the parents of those teens will also be involved in the production, lending their own perspective as they watched their children make the choices which led them into addiction.

Drug Story Theater (DST) gives their teenaged participants the creative ability to advise their peers from the stage, through group sessions, improvisational exercises and family involvement.

The actors are paid for their performances, and for every dollar they earn, DST places three dollars in a 529 educational fund.

When each teen graduates from high school and pursues further education, they can use those reserve funds to help fund tuition.

The event is also sponsored by the Nicholas J. Lawrence Foundation, created last year in response to Lawrence’s death after a long battle with addiction.
